Piruqatigiit Resource Centre and Wenson Support Services have identified a gap for learners with neurodiversities including trauma presentations who may have left school or been pushed out of school early due to unmet needs and different ways of learning, doing, being and relating. Through an alternative education program for those youth who are currently not attending school but could benefit from learning through relationships grounded in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and curriculum, we believe we can help redirect the trajectory for these kids. Youth who are perpetually misunderstood and marginalized are at an increased risk of adverse outcomes such as increased risk taking, suicide, substance misuse and exploitation. Through meaningful engagement, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit pedagogical and relational approaches, we feel strongly that this program can reach the hearts of many youth to show them they are capable and belong in this world. They have important things to do and share with their community.
